Help us develop the Accommodation Strategy for our Borumba Pumped Hydro Project.
Have your say about the future of accommodation in the region.
Queensland Hydro has released a Registration of Interest for Accommodation Solutions for local landowners, accommodation providers and existing businesses around our Borumba Pumped Hydro Project.
This is the first step in developing an Accommodation Strategy and as we work collaboratively with communities, local government and industry to find accommodation solutions for future project needs.
While the Borumba Pumped Hydro Project will bring significant long term economic, environmental, and social benefits, we understand that this comes with disruption for the local accommodation market already experiencing shortages and constraints. As a good neighbour, we recognise that it is our duty to help address these challenges.
Queensland Hydro's Borumba Project Director Leah McKenzie said that while workers’ camps will be used to house many of the Project’s expected more than 2,000 peak workforce, our desire to see as many local workers as possible means that there will likely be semi-permanent population growth due to the Project.
“It’s important to us that as many workers as possible come from within the Project footprint, ensuring that locals receive first opportunity of any Project benefits.
“We're looking to create partnerships with local businesses and property owners to find practical solutions that work for everyone.
“As we move through this transition to renewable energy in Queensland and embrace sustainable development, the projects will have a meaningful impact on regional communities and will continue to build diverse local economies that benefit the community at large,” Ms McKenzie said.
About the ROI process
We’re hoping to gather early information on the state of play on accommodation in Project. In particular, we are seeking information on proposals or known housing projects – existing, planned and currently working through the development process – from communities, landowners, organisations, existing businesses, and social enterprises.
If you are:
- A landowner with the capacity to build additional housing on your property, such as a granny flat
- An existing tourism or accommodation provider looking to extend your offering
- A social enterprise working on housing and accommodation solutions, or
- Currently working through the development application process to extend or add housing onto your land with your local Council
Then we'd love to hear from you.

Registrations are now closed
Round one of the Registration of Interest (ROI) is now closed.
If you've submitted an ROI, we'll be in touch as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience while we work through a high volume of submissions.
Round one was an early-stage information gathering exercise to help us develop a long-term snapshot of the region and understand the state of play on accommodation in Project area. Future rounds will be announced once we’ve assessed the information we receive during this ROI stage.
