Managing social impacts and opportunities
What we mean by social impacts and opportunities
Social impacts refer to changes that may affect how people live, work and interact in their communities. These changes can include both challenges that need to be managed and opportunities to deliver positive outcomes.
Queensland Hydro seeks to understand and manage social impacts and opportunities in a way that responds to community needs and evolves as the project progresses.
How social impacts and opportunities are managed
Social impacts and opportunities are managed through:
- assessment of potential impacts and opportunities
- implementation of management and mitigation measures
- engagement with communities and stakeholders
- ongoing monitoring and reporting
- adaptive management where required.
Social Impact Assessment and Management Plan (SAMP)
A Social Assessment and Social Impact Assessment and Management Plan (SAMP) has been prepared for the exploratory works phase and agreed with the Office of the Coordinator‑General.
These documents outline how potential social impacts and opportunities associated with the exploratory works are identified, managed and monitored, in line with Queensland Government requirements.
Key social matters
The SAMP addresses key social matters relevant to the exploratory works, including:
- community and stakeholder engagement
- workforce management
- housing and accommodation
- local business and industry procurement
- health and community wellbeing.
Monitoring and reporting
We monitor the implementation of the SAMP in line with regulatory requirements.
